SPORT: Enyimba defeats Pillars in Kano

Enyimba surprised Kano Pillars in Kano on Wednesday ,May 4, by defeating them 2-1 to move out of the relegation zone of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Enyimba , came into the game desperately looking for a positive result following two dismal performance at home to both Heartland and Lobi Stars.

The host started the rescheduled game on the front foot and duly took the lead through a Rabiu Ali free kick in the 20th minute. Sai Gida almost increased the tally in the 36th minute but Ifeanyi Mathew watched in frustration as Theophilus Afelokhai saved the situation from point blank range. Afelokhai was again called to the rescue two minutes before the interval by denying Ali his brace.

Two clear missed opportunities proved too costly for the hosts as a much improved Enyimba scored twice after the interval to condemn Pillars to their first home defeat this season.

Nzube Anaezemba began the comeback with a well deserved goal in the 51st minute, while Ike Thankgod scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute.

Late pressure from the hosts did not yield any reward.

This win takes Enyimba three places up.
