Tambuwal And Politics Of Buhari's Illness - Mamman Abdullahi

Governor Tambuwal
It’s a history replete with series of betrayals and treachery for more than 30 years. His politics is synonymous with biting the finger that fed him.
That played out when President Muhammadu Buhari first embarked on medical vacation to London. The president’s illness created an aperture for Governor Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State to deepen and perfect his treacherous game: Let the president dies, let me become a vice president.
He oiled his machinery and embarked on a never-ending political voyage across the country – knocking at the doors of hubs of political influence – begging to be considered as a new deputy in the tragic event that the president is dead.
That is why when good-spirited Nigerians - both Muslims and Christians - were busy organizing prayer sessions and vigils across the country beseeching their creator to heal President Buhari, Tambuwal was on the other hand, busy spending Sokoto tax payers’ money by upping his game of begging for endorsement.
While governance in Sokoto state suffers, Tambuwal is busy shuttling in hired private jets canvassing for support from prominent politicians and former Nigerian rulers for his inordinate ambition of becoming Professor Yemi Osinbajo’s deputy in his desperate quest for Buhari’s death.
While it is not easy for him to permeate the political wall of the gentleman vice president, the governor cashed on the raging battle of supremacy between the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sansui II and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, by deploying all the arsenals at his disposal to save the Kano emir from imminent sack.
His endless efforts in saving Sanusi’s throne is not out compassion as many Nigerians will tend to believe. Tambuwal look at the raging crisis to better the lot of his ambition.
The scenario is simple: Emir Sanusi has the ears of Osinbajo and APC leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In the unfortunate even of Buhari’s exit before 2019, Sanusi can facilitate the appointment of Tambuwal as vice president. Selfishness.
Tambuwal believes he's the smartest and the greatest manipulator because after holding a secret meeting in China with Governors of Kano and Zamfara where an agreement was reached to contact Aso Rock before any move of removing Sanusi;  he however betrayed them as usual and aligned with Sanusi after his return.
His desperation made him to beg the Awujale of Ijebuland and Oba of Lagos to intercede on Tambuwal behalf before Tinubu- all in his attempt to become vice-president.
As early as last week Friday, Tambuwal pressured the Sultan of Sokoto, who was literally forced to disguised himself and sneaked into the vice president residence in Abuja in an unmarked car driven by a former Minister of Transports Yusuf Suleiman, all in a desperate bid to faciliate Tambuwal appointment.
During the birthday colloquim of Tinubu, Tambuwal was the first to arrive the venue in Lagos. He abandoned his commissioners who were on retreat in Jos, just to be a good boy.
This may sound weird to many Nigerians who are unaware of Tambuwal’s political antecedents, and his culture of treachery and betrayal.
For beginners, Tambuwal was educated at a rural primary school in Tambuwal. He proceeded to Teachers College, Dogon Daji and finally ended up at the Usman Danfodiyo University - all in Sokoto State.

After graduation and unsuccessful law practice, he manipulated and imposed himself at the baggy man of Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Tambuwal, who was Commissioner of Education in Governor Yahaya Abdulkareem’s National Republican Convention-led government in Sokoto State.
After the return of democracy, Alhaji Abubakar Tambuwal as Peoples Democractic Party (PDP) chairman in the state in 2003, was to nominate a candidate to the House of Representatives his constituency . He nominated Waziri Tambuwal.
Tambuwal contested the PDP primaries with Bala Kokani Kebbe. Kokani roundly defeated Tambuwal at the primaries.
After that Waziri Tambuwal dumped his benefactor Abubakar Tambuwal. In fact, they are not even in speaking terms.
In his desperate attempt to grab the ticket, Tambuwal defected to the All Nigerians Peoples Party (ANPP). He later embraced the then Governor Attahiru Bafarawa, who gave him the House of Representatives ticket under the ANPP.
In 2007, when he wanted second term ticket, he dumped Bafarawa and embraced the then Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, who gave him the ticket.
At the House of Representatives, He reduced himself to the status of a house boy to Speaker Dimeji Bankole. He later abandoned Bankole. Today, Tambuwal doesn't even know where Bankole is.
When he wanted to become the House of Representatives speaker, he redirected his loyalty to his colleague, Femi Gbajabiamila who took him to Tinubu.
Gbajabiamila convinced Tinubu to support Tambuwal’s ambition, which he did by mobilising the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) block votes that gave Tambuwal the needed support to emerge as speaker against all political odds.
In June 2015 when Gbajabiamila wanted to be speaker House of Representatives, Tambuwal paid him back by mobilising the lawmakers for his rival, Yakubu Dogara. He betrayed Gbajabiamila and Tinubu, just like he did to Wamakko, Bafarawa and Abubakar Shehu Tambuwal in the past.
This treacherous game is continuing. He is desperately wishing President Buhari dead to actualise his inordinate ambition of becoming the vice president.
It is noteworthy to state here that President Buhari will return from London hale and hearty. He will lead this country to the promised land.
It is therefore left for Tambuwal to empty the treasury of the cash crunch Sokoto state and contest the 2019 elections with Buhari. He has the democratic right to do so.

What Ikpeazu must do for Abia to grow: Alex Otti

•Abia APGA guber candidate Alex Otti.
•Abia APGA guber candidate Alex Otti.
Dr Alex Otti, the APGA governorship candidate in the 2015 general elections in Abia, has advised Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu “to move away from the old order” to take the state to greater heights.
Otti gave the advice on Saturday during a civic reception organised in his honour by the Umunneato caucus of Abia First, his campaign organisation, in conjunction with APGA.
He urged Ikpeazu to chart new path and take actions that would address the challenges facing Abia.
“Our desire and those of our supporters, friends and allies in APGA, Abia First and beyond is for our state to grow from strength to strength.
“And for it to grow, the present government has to succeed, and for the government to succeed, it has to enjoy the support and cooperation of a majority of Abia people, especially the honest and fair-minded ones.
“And for it to enjoy such honest support, the government must think outside the box and completely move away from the old order.
“It has to make comprehensive assessment of the challenges confronting the state and take critical and far-reaching actions that touch the foundation.” Otti said.
He urged his supporters and Abia residents “to cooperate and support every genuine and legitimate action of the government.
Otti, however, alleged that the ills that characterised the previous administrations were still noticeable in the state.
He cited the menace of kidnappers in different parts of the state and use of touts as revenue agents by the present administration as remnants of the old order.
Otti, a former Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Bank Plc, said the use of revenue touts had led to some ugly incidents, , including two fatal accidents in Aba.
He said, “civilised societies do not use touts to collect taxes and levies.”
Otti also urged Ikpeazu to use the Federal Government’s bailout fund and Paris Club refund to pay workers’ salaries and pensions.
He said that the essence of the Federal Government’s interventions was to cushion the effects of the economic hardship on workers.
Otti said that the productivity of workers would continue to decline, “if government fails to give serious priority to their welfare.”
He expressed his resolve to continue to lead a viable opposition by offering constructive criticism to the state government.
“As a people, our resolve to stand firm as opposition cannot be shaken. We shall not join the queue of sycophants and hand-clappers. It is not in our character.
“Ours is neither a hostile nor cowardly opposition.
“We shall remain honest, firm and fearless in identifying those ills that retard development in Abia,” Otti said.
He thanked the organisers of the event for their show of solidarity, commitment and courage toward the project of “reclaiming and restoring Abia for Abians.”
The Coordinator of the Umunneato caucus of Abia First, Mr Uzor Nwachukwu, said that the reception was organised to formally welcome Otti back after his exploits in the 2015 governorship race.
Nwachukwu described Otti as “a great man, who has fought wars in the land of man and spirits and returned home full of life and vigour to tell the story”.
Some of those who spoke at the event included the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Abia First, Chief Nnanna Ngwu, and Otti’s running mate at the polls, Dr. Eme Uche.
Others were the state APGA Chairman, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, and a former member of the House of Representatives, Chief Damian Ozurumba.
The speakers saluted Otti’s courage, resilience and commitment.
The ceremony, which took place at Otti’s country home in Umuru Nvosi, Isialangwa North Local Government Area of Abia, was attended by his political and business associates, including the Chief Executive Officer of Nestoil Limited, Dr Ernest Azudialu.

LG polls : Electoral Chairman scampers to safety as APC primary ends in violence

Lagos – Violence erupted midway into the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to elect chairmanship candidates for the July 22 council polls in Lagos State on Saturday, ending the event abruptly. APC supporters protesting Some aggrieved party supporters engaged one another in a free-for-all midway into the election, smashing ballot boxes over allegations of imposition of candidates at the election.

Scores of delegates and others present at the Teslim Balogun Stadium venue fled in different directions as a result of the fracas, even as some were injured. The Chairman of the Elections Committee, Sen Tokunbo Afikuyomi, was also attacked, with his top taken off by angry supporters who accused him of impartiality as he scampered to safety. Security officials later forced him out the grip of the angry youths and whisked him away. NAN reports trouble started when some party members in Surulere and Lagos Mainland openly protested against the names of candidates being read out by Afikuyomi for endorsement as consensus candidates. They alleged that the party leadership was foisting candidates on them and said the decision of the leadership to approve consensus candidates in 18 councils was wrong. The aggrieved members initially vented their anger through protests, but it later degenerated into fracas between supporters of selected candidates and those who opposed them. A party faithful, Mr Wale Tokunbo, had told NAN shortly before the violence broke out that the substitution of Mr Tajudeen Ajide for the Surulere Local Government Area Chairmanship for another candidate was unjust. “”The removal of Ajide’s name for the name of somebody we don’t know is not acceptable to us. “If we talk about democracy, we should be able to practise it. This primary is a sham; we would resist it,” he said. Another party faithful in Mainland Local Government who pleaded anonymity had told NAN that party members were surprised at the mention of Yaba Local Government as one of the areas with a consensus candidate at the primary. He said there were aspirants contesting for the post in the area and that nobody knew of the consensus candidate until they got to the venue. “What consensus candidates are they talking about? We are just knowing that Yaba is one of them now. This is wrong,” he said. Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the party, Mr Henry Ajomale, had urged the delegates and other supporters not to be violent. “I welcome you all to this election and I urge you all conduct yourselves in a peaceful manner. “We have the information that some people are here to cause trouble. We shouldn’t allow them because they are saboteurs, “he said. NAN reports that the names of Mr Toba Oke (Ifako Ijaiye) and Mr Kamal Bashua (Lagos Island East) were among the few candidates out of the 57 endorsed at the primary before violence broke out.
