Lagos State Assembly To Establish Economic Planning, Development Board For Lagos Councils

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly are set to pass a bill to establish local Government Economic Planning and Development Board for local government and local council development areas in the state into law.

A private member bill sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni, Lagos Island State Constituency 1, scaled through its second reading during the Assembly’s plenary on Monday, 18th April, 2016.

The bill, if passed into law, according to the lawmaker will synchronize the local governments and LCDAs in economic planning and development. “The bill is in cognizance to the constitution and will go a long way to promote and strengthen the financial status of the state,” Eshinlokun-Sanni said..

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, said the intendment of the bill is to harmonize the economic growth in the country and to promote harmony between each LG and LCDA in other to promote and sustain the state economy especially from the grassroots.

Hon. Rasheed Makinde, Ifako-Ijaiye State Constituency II, reiterated that the bill is people oriented bill; he said if properly managed it will allow the Local Government to look beyond their allocation. It will also increase their income and expenditure while it will allow government to do better in areas of development.

The bill has been assigned to Committee on Economic Planning and Budget for further actions that would speed up its passage into law.
In another development, the lawmakers have adopted the presentation of report of the six-man Adhoc Committee on petition titled “Re: Allocation of a Parcel of land at Alabeke, Inukan village, Oloko-Nla, Eti-Osa Local Government Area also referred to as Moremi Residential Scheme by the Lands, NTDA and Surveyor-General Office” as a resolution of the House.
