The officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Air Force (NAF), policemen and other aviation security personnel, on Wednesday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos State, received 41 Nigerians who were deported from the United Kingdom to the country out the 83 Nigerians that were alleged to have breached Britain’s immigration laws.
The UK-deportees arrived at the cargo terminal of MMIA in a chartered Airbus 330 aircraft at exactly 7:40 a.m. The 41 Nigerians are made up of 33 males and 8 females, all adolescents.
The UK government alleged that those deported were residents whose documents had expired and prisoners whose terms of imprisonment were nearing completion in that country.
General, Alhaji Mohammed Sidi NEMA Director, said the deportees after interrogation and profiling would be given a “token” to go back to their respective destinations.
Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the NEMA South-West Zone spokesperson also told reporters that the some of the deportees are prisoners who are expected to complete their jail terms in the country.
He said, “The 41 are part of 83 Nigerians from the UK, who are deported for various offences. Some of them have not completed their prison sentences, and would be taken to Nigerian prisons to complete their terms, while others committed drug-related and immigration offences.
All attempt to speak with them proved abortive as they resisted questions from the members of the press, they however waived all efforts by the photojournalists to get their images.
The official of the Nigerian immigration service officials and other relevant agencies who received them however subjected them to profiling.
