Okorocha's Bizarre Condition For Imo Governorship In 2019 - Samuel Ajayi

Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, is one classical example of why democracy remains freedom of the people to make the wrong choice.  Okorocha, like Buhari, came to office on the back of a popular movement against former governor, Ikedi Ohakim, in 2011. But since then, he has become a massive disaster, running the state like a personal estate. What did he do recently?

He announced that anyone above 50 should forget running for the governorship of the state. On the basis of the clamour for the younger generation to be given a chance to prove their mettle, a very good idea. But that is as good as it gets.

Okorocha, who wanted anyone above 50 to steer clear of the Douglas House in Owerri, publicly endorsed a Buhari who would be 77 (at least, officially) in 2019 for second term as president but asked anyone above 50 to forget Imo governorship. Not only that.

Okorocha claimed he became governor at 49 (having been born in 1962) in 2011. But by 2015, when he was 53, he contested again. One should expect that since he so much meant well for his people, he should have decided not to run again since he was then over 50.

By announcing that anyone over 50 should not contest, Okorocha was not only being clever by half, but also taking the very enlightened 'Imolites' for granted. Sources told me that he wants his son-in-law to succeed him in 2019 BY ALL MEANS and he is trying to clear all hurdles for the young man. Can you imagine that? Can you just imagine such insult?

Well, we thank God that Okorocha is not INEC. We also thank God he is not the ONLY person that will decide who will be next Imo governor. It is now left for the people of the state to tell this political misfit that the political destiny of the state is not in his hands.
