On this day, the year 2015, at exactly 5:44pm, I placed this post on Facebook: "Congratulatory Note to Mr President-elect GEN. Muhammadu Okechukwu Buhari(The Incorruptible General)"My note in part: "Today I join myriad of hopeful and aspiring Nigerians in sending my goodwill to you. Sir, your victory symbolises Nigerian's collective will and long thirst for purposeful change in leadership...
...I have no regret voting you in as I have every conviction that you will make Nigeria great again...
...I urge you to be magnanimous in victory and uphold institutional reform. Our people want change, they want direction..."
Looking back now to 'that day,' I feel deeply sorry. Sorry for self; sorry for those I convinced to vote for 'Slow Country'; Sorry to have believed Nigeria could be one; sorry to even anticipate any meaningful direction from my overall boss.
I criticised the former administration for being slow in action, laxity and lack of wifr in confronting Nigeria's challenges. I did this from a patriotic front, for progress and to stamp out CORRUPTION. Those days, sentimentality was a far cry for me. I shunned the proximity of our Igbo nation with the Ijaw ethnic group and aligned with the north- PMB. It was with lofty spirit but ill conceived hope I took that stand.
Painfully, TWO YEARS after the 'CHANGE' we promised, the nation drift apart consumed by the CORRUPTION we vowed to halt. The nation, swiftly plunged into abysmal retrogression. The 'slow country' we were in before, now a heaven wished for.
All around the administration I supported is a nuisance. In truth, from the top, the CHANGE is a sham.
"A trader is able to predict how good sales will be for the week from the first market day" (Hausa proverb)
Indeed, many good people forewarned 'us' before hand but...
Let me begin by saying, I AM SORRY
