Xmas Blues: Nigerians celebrate in extreme hardship due to fuel scarcity, poor ATM service

It was meant to be a 20-minute  journey  from Ikeja to iyana Ipaja, in a sweltering sun, the heat was overbearing, as commuters used their handkerchief and whatever came handy to fan their body to wade off the blistering heat. Stuck in hold-up that was grinding and excruciating, this reporter spent three  hours in a stretch, no thanks to vehicles that blocked the road in endless rows of queues that dotted petrol stations along the high ways.
From Ebute Meta to CMS, from Oshodi to Sango, the untold experience Was The same, Lagos was turned into a giant slough of despair where instead of celebration of the yuletide, there was suffering and gnashing of teeth in Buhari’s Nigeria.
As if the experience was not confounding enough, the banks ensured their ATM machines did not work, causing another rounds of queues across ATM machines all over Lagos. Contrastingly, Demi Adesina as if in mockery of the dilemma of the people rolled out a scintillating documentary on Buhari’s achievements as super President, a caring father figure who released a lullaby to soothe frayed nerves on Sunday exhorting the virtues of long-suffering and patience.
Nigeria is a country of patient people who find cause to celebrate even in extreme deprivation, and are always willing to handover their oppressors to the Almighty for judgement. It is a country of contrasts, of irony and politics that defies textbook analysis.
As some people attribute the challenge and suffering caused by petroleum scarcity to federal government ‘s inefficiency, incompetence and insensitivity, some In their midst said it was sabotage by imaginary saboteurs to damage the good reputation of General Buhari, such is the nature and character of our people. They always provide excuses for the failings of our leaders, they don’t believe in the culpability of the leaders but those around them, the proverbial Chicken Cabinet or cabal, the leader himself is infallible, as he is covered by the cult of personality.
Buhari can do no wrong, yet for these people there is nothing they can point to in the Buhari presidency that has redeemed their lives. As the argument raged back and forth in the vehicle this reporter boarded from Ikeja to Iyana Ipaja , two men almost caused a stir as they wanted to exchange blow over the Bulgaria mystique. One said he has disappointed voters, the other intoned, saying he was the best thing to have happened to the country. He attributed the current plight of Nigerians in the yuletide to PDP and unscrupulous elements, and when asked to substantiate he got angry and wanted to apply fisticuffs instead of reason to advance his Buharism.
Many families decided to stay at home and celebrate in depression and deprivation, the little money they have, bank won’t let go, yet, the mob are at each others necks trying to justify the inconvenience of the people and incompetence of Buhari administration.
